Grace to Grace Christian Fellowship Church

2300 17th Street adjoining Roosevelt Park

I know very little about this history of this small but attractive church that is very visible when you drive to see the Michigan Central Station or drive from downtown to Mexican Village. The cornerstone indicates that construction began in 1870. Quite likely this was a German Lutheran congregation that had funds to erect this attractive but rather small Gothic church.

I have been told—by a local person—that, in 1952, this Lutheran church was sold to the House of Israel church. That congregation may have occupied the former Lutheran Church until the early 2000s when then moved next door—to 2310 17th Street—into what had been the rectory for the Lutheran Church. Then the Grace to Grace Christian Fellowship purchased the former Lutheran Church.

If you know more about history of this appealing church building and theCongregations that have used it as their place of worship, please let me know by sending a message to renf@umich.edu or judym@umich.edu.
